Block Party
In honor of the 100-year anniversary of this historic non-profit theater, our team was tasked with producing a free community block party featuring live music and theater, children’s activities, and local vendor booths. With less than 9 months to prep, our main challenge was securing notable talent for a family-friendly audience with limited lead time and funding.

Pasadena Playhouse’s Block Party also aimed to fulfill the Playhouse District’s mission of “promoting Pasadena as a home for arts and culture” according to Playhouse District Association’s Executive Director, Brian Wallace, in the southpasadenean.com.

We were fortunate to collaborate with the Playhouse District Association (PDA) to source local talent as our starting point. This approach proved most helpful in achieving our goals. With the support of the PDA and other community partners, we successfully curated 20+ performances across the two event stages.

Over 10,000 visitors attended, and as a result, the event budget increased by 10% the following year.

The block party received glowing reviews in the press which further highlighted the positive impact of the event in the community. As Alysia Gray Painter of NBC Los Angeles said, "Pasadena Playhouse is one historic go-to for watch-and-thrill performances, but it gets that its loyal community likes to "play" a part in its story, too. And so in 2018 the Playhouse Block Party began offering a full day of freebie-riffic fun times for anyone who wanted to swing by the Playhouse District".
